STIMSON: WE GOT THE RESULT WE FAIRLY DERSERVED ©
Saturday 14 November
Gills new star Febian Brandy was brought down in the box by Oldham captain Sean Gregan.
The video on the left shows Curtis Weston who slammed in the spot kick via the Town End right hand post - and secured three valuable points for the Gills.
Cue great joy by the Gills fans
Speaking to BBC Radio Kent after today’s match Mark Stimson said, “Without our top goalscorer and captain we were missing two big players, but the boys who came in did a good job for us and thankfully we got the three points and made the evening a lot better.”
Commenting on the extreme weather conditions Stimson said, “When you wake up this morning and see the wind and rain coming down, you know it’s going to be a bit of a lottery. We said to the players try and keep it on the floor as much as you can and not let the wind affect the game.”
He added, “But it’s difficult and I thought we adjusted really well to it and so did Oldham but over ninety minutes I thought we got the result we fairly deserved.”
Stimson also thought his latest signing Febian Brandy put in another quality performance and was full of praise when saying, “If you can get the ball into him around the box he has great feet and because of his size his change of direction is electric.”
He continued, “Hopefully if we can keep supplying him balls in the box and get some more penalties, as this week we did the proper thing and finished off nicely through Curtis Weston.”
Asked about today’s formation and a bit of a surprise at not pairing Febian Brandy with either Mark McCammon or Dennis Oli, Stimson commented,”We decided to go 4-5-1 and play Curtis just off Feb up top and I thought it worked well.”
Stimson added, “They were both lively and both caused problems. Rather than putting a big man up there and having a fight, because we knew their two centre halves are strong in the air, we thought we could better exploit them down the sides and around their bodies.”
