Stimson was pleased though with the way his team responded after the interval when saying, “Full credit to the boys they came out second half and it was a proper test. Great individual goal. Pure, pure quality and you know someone who deserves that because he’s not liked.

Let’s not get away from it, let’s not hide, he’s not liked. Probably like myself but he’s like me, he’s got a big heart and they won’t stop him, they won’t knock him.”

He added, “Full credit to him for taking that goal but unfortunately after that Adam Miller  (above) picked up a booking, so I had to take him off and readjust, which we did.

We went for the positive one by putting Dennis Oli on the wing and putting Jacko up top. Jacko got in behind really early on and if the keeper hadn’t been 6’8” I don’t think he would have saved it.”

We kept going forward and obviously Brighton were breaking away and causing us problems as well and probably missed one or two. It was certainly end to end and then when Josh Gowling unfortunately pulls their guy down, they get a penalty you think it’s not going to be your night.

But then full credit to Alan Julian (above) I’ve seen him do that a few times before and was a great save. I think that the place just took off from that and Dickson had a chance that hit the post from all of four yards.”

When asked if he was happy with a point the Gills manager responded with, “I’m not totally happy because I want three and if we’d got the three points it would have been fantastic. But you have to look at what went into the game. Garry Richards unfortunately picked up an injury at the weekend that has ruled him out for the rest of the season.”

He went on by saying, “Darren Dennehy (left) amazingly recovered to play tonight, didn’t probably have his best of forty five minutes but probably shouldn’t have played with a real serious back injury that’s gone into spasm yesterday. Hasn’t trained and ruled himself out and then gives the best he could, so the heart of the defence was really ripped apart.”

“Putting young Tom Wynter on second half, giving it his best shot and then Josh getting sent off and Dennis Oli going back into central defence, I think at the end of the night we’ve got to say it was a point gained. We’ll have to see who’s fit and available for Saturday to take that centre role position up.

Meanwhile Seagulls manager Gus Poyet (right), speaking to their Official website believed his side deserved all three points, “I think we started well. We were really well organised on a difficult pitch, which probably looked better from the stands, but I can tell you it was worse. It was difficult to control the ball, but we did try.”

“We were 1-0 ahead through another fantastic delivery by Elliott Bennett, and we were in control of the game. We were creating problems for Gillingham.

The second half we tried to do the same but we conceded a goal in a bit of a naive way, and then the game became really difficult for us, so I brought on the three subs which changed the game. Alan Navarro, Ashley Barnes, and Gary Dicker were outstanding for us when they came on.”

Poyet continued, “At that time with the three of them on the pitch Gillingham could not cope with us. We were controlling the game, passing well and creating chances through one on ones and they were all over the place, but unfortunately we could not win it. Even with the penalty chance at the end, we should have won the game”

.

“In the end you have to give credit to the opposition today. They tried their best, they worked very hard, and they were rewarded with a point which they did not deserve.
