Currently he is on trial with Southend but the cash strapped Shrimpers are now saying that his wage demands are out of their range. Southend boss Paul Sturrock said, “Adebayo is a player I would love to have in my squad but we simply couldn't afford to match his wages.”

Although Gills budgets are also tight it could be that with the recent sell of Simeon Jackson some of that money could be available to the Gills manager. So the Big “Bayo” Striker could now be a new target for Andy Hess as Gills interest in Marvellous Marvin Morgan (click for story) could be on the wane following Marvin’s statements that he now wants to stay with the Shots.

However already in the Gills dressing room, is big striker Mark McCammon (left), but Mark’s track record since signing for the Club in 2007 has not been inspiring.

Injury for the 31 year old, and loss of form, has curtailed Mark’s Gills appearances to just 45 and his five goal haul during that time is a poor return for a striker.

This week Andy Hessenthaler has challenged Mark to prove he can do the business in front of goal and rule out the need to sign another forward.

Returning from his latest injury, Mark did come on for around twenty minutes in the pre-season friendly defeat at Concord Rangers, had two goal bound efforts, and scored a disallowed goal.

Mark will play in Thursday’s home pre-season game against Hearts and the Gills coaching staff are urging him to make the most of this latest opportunity to cement his place in the starting line-up against Cheltenham on 7th August.

Andy Hess told KentOnline, “Mark’s worked hard in the gym but he’s been out for some time for one reason or another and he’s got to prove to me now that he’s fit and he could stop me from going out and getting another striker.”

Andy continued, “Let’s give him a chance. You have to look at his record and it’s not that prolific (246 career appearances and 30 goals) I don’t think he’s a natural goal scorer, but can he prove me wrong. He’s got two weeks to prove to me he’s the man.”
