GILLS ARE CHASING STRIKER MARVELLOUS MARVIN
Thursday 8 July
Gills are amongst a few clubs chasing Aldershot’s hot striker, Marvin Morgan (pictured right) who impressed last season when scoring 16 goals and helping Aldershot reach the League Two play-offs.
League One clubs, Peterborough and Swindon have both had bids rejected for Morgan last year and League Two rivals Wycombe also had an offer rejected for the striker.
Gary Waddock, former Shot’s manager but now in charge at Wycombe obviously has an interest in Marvin Morgan and Gary would be keen to be reunited with the big striker at Adams Park.
With the departure of Simeon Jackson, Gills are keen to bolster their attack in the quest for a quick return to League One and Marvin would be an ideal replacement.
Aldershot, like Gills are keen to hold onto their prize assets but will find it hard to resist credible and firm offers before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Morgan started his career at Wealdstone scoring 22 goals in 51 appearances. He then joined Yeading for a fee of £3,000 and they won the League. Morgan scored 25 goals for Yeading and finished the season as the clubs top scorer. In May 2007, he joined Woking in the Conference.
In May 2008, Morgan then signed for newly promoted League Two Aldershot for a Club record fee.
Gills have also taken Ebbsfleet United goalkeeper Lance Cronin (right) on trial as a credible alternative to current number one goalie, Alan Julian.
Lance Cronin is expected to play in the up coming Gills friendly matches over the next few days, commencing when they travel to Braintree this Friday and Bromley on the Saturday.
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler said: “We like him and he’s decent. He’s stood out in training sessions and I thought he did well.”
Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish has also praised Lance saying, "Lance is still young in goalkeeping terms and can be whatever he wants to be. He has all the attributes and qualities needed. He has been brilliant since I signed him and never been an ounce of trouble”.
Liam continued, "He has always been fit and up for the challenge. He has been a model professional”. Lance Cronin is 24 and an England C international playing nearly 200 games for the Fleet after joining the club in 2006. Lance previously had spells at Crystal Palace as a youth team player and in the league at Wycombe, Oldham and Shrewsbury.
Today it has been reported that Gills Cardiff target, Darren Dennehy is set to snub Andy Hessenthaler in favour of League Two rivals Barnet and Mark Stimson.
