In previous seasons the JPT Competition regulations have insisted that Clubs play at least six of the eleven players who have made the most starts in all competitions during the current campaign.

While that rule still stands for this season, Clubs have now been given an alternative rule to follow and abide by instead - if they so wish.

The new rule states that the starting eleven for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie must contain at least six of the eleven players who started the club's previous game - or will start their next game.

The two rules cannot be used together and Clubs have been told to pick just one of the methods to use when considering their team selections for Johnstone’s Paint Trophy games.

Andy Hess will therefore have to be careful in selecting his eleven starters at Roots Hall and his seven substitutes.

It is not known what penalty might be imposed if Clubs fall foul of the rule(s) but possibly it could mean instant elimination.
